Description
MDF Fire Retardant Film has a hard and ready-to-use surface and is fire retardant due to the addition of special salts. It has a high bending strength and does not or hardly work, ideal for the interior and furniture industry where fire safety is especially important. The board consists of wood fibres that are compressed under high pressure. This makes the material easy to process and does not splinter. MDF Fire Retardant Lacquer Film is provided with a white, strong film that makes priming the material unnecessary. It is important to degrease the material well before painting. Also, the material has a sucking effect. Therefore, it is only suitable for indoor applications and in dry conditions.

MDF Fire Retardant Film: What is it?
MDF Fire Retardant Film is the variant to choose if a reduced fire reaction, flame spread or smoke development are required. For example in doors, partitions and interior fittings. MDF Fire-Retardant Paint Carrier Film is characterised by its red colour and white top layer.
MDF Fire Retardant FIlm has been developed for indoor applications where increased fire safety requirements are demanded. MDF Fire Retardant Lacquer Layer boards ensure that fire propagation and smoke production are retarded. The board is composed of dried wood fibres and glue. These wood fibres are subsequently compressed under high pressure and temperatures into an MDF board.
Don't know which MDF variant is right for you, but are you planning to paint or lacquer your project? Then go for primed or lacquer-bearing MDF. MDF Fire Retardant Lacquer Carrier has a hard and smooth top layer compared to primed MDF. You do not need to sand this board material for the first layer, but because of the smooth top layer degreasing is all the more important! Subsequently, you can easily paint this board material with a roller. Are you going to spray your board material? Then MDF Fire Retardant Lacquer Film is the best choice for you! The edges of this board material are not finished and do not have this white layer. First finish the edges with an edge sealer before painting the board.
Lacquer-carrying film top layer
MDF fire retardant film, the name says it all, is finished with a thin lacquer-carrying film layer that acts as a primer. So it is actually a primer! Because the finish is very smooth, only light sanding is required. Degreasing the material is more important. It is a practical and efficient choice when you want to complete your project quickly and cost-effectively. However, bear in mind that the edges are not finished and still need extra attention.
In principle, board material with a paint-carrying film layer can be painted directly. It is suitable for all paints: acrylic (water-based) and alkyd (turpentine-based). Do you want to enjoy your paintwork for longer or will the surface be used intensively? Then first apply a primer coat before applying the final paint layer.
Available thicknesses of MDF Fire Retardant Film
MDF can be ordered in various thicknesses. You can easily specify your desired thickness during the ordering process. This way, you can be sure that the board material meets your requirements: both the format and the thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 18 mm.
Machining of MDF Fire Retardant Sheets
MDF is very easy to process: when milling and sawing, the material does not splinter. Because of the foil, the lacquering can be started immediately after degreasing and possibly sanding. The end edges require some extra attention. In order to counteract the absorbing effect of the end edges, there are various possibilities: use diluted wood glue with a little water, putty or a special edge sealant.
Specific applications of MDF Fire Retardant Film
MDF Fire Retardant Film is used as wall covering, partitions, ceiling panels and display panels. The top layer makes it an easy-to-apply panel material such as tables, wall shelves, furniture, desks, etc. In short, do you want to paint your project in your own colour and is fire safety of great importance? Then go for MDF Fire Retardant Lacquer Foil.
