Aluplex®: What Is It?

Aluplex® is a high-quality sheet material composed of a combination of aluminum and plastic. These sheets are durable, lightweight, and offer excellent weather resistance, making them ideal for outdoor applications. Aluplex® sheets feature a polyethylene core sandwiched between two aluminum layers, providing high stability and rigidity. These sheets are easy to work with and can be easily sawed, drilled, and milled. Additionally, they are available in various colors and finishes, making them suitable for both functional and decorative applications.

Visual Quality of Okoumé Plywood B/B

The quality of the top layers of plywood is indicated by letter combinations. There is a letter designation for the visible side (top) and one for the back (bottom). This pertains to the quality of the veneer, while the quality of the bonding is indicated differently. B/B means that the top and bottom sides have the same visual quality. Read here more about all visual qualities.

This sheet material has a B/B visual quality. Both the top and bottom sides have B quality. B-quality veneers may have small imperfections. Minor discolorations and small repairs are allowed. Small color variations are permitted. Knots and sapwood may be present. B/B is a high-quality plywood that can be used on both sides.

Primed top layer

Plywood Marine Aluplex® Primed, the name says it all, is finished with a primer layer. Board material with a primed top layer offers immediate time savings and an improved finish, as the material is already pre-treated. Moreover, it is cost-saving. It is a practical and efficient choice when you want to finish your project quickly. However, bear in mind that the edges are not finished and the primer layer still needs to be sanded.

In principle, board material with a primer coating can be painted immediately. It is suitable for all paints: acrylic (water-based) and alkyd (turpentine-based). Do you want to enjoy your paintwork for longer or will the surface be used intensively? Then first apply a primer layer before applying the final coat.

Available Thicknesses of Aluplex® Sheets

Aluplex® can be ordered in various thicknesses. You can easily specify your desired thickness during the ordering process. This ensures that the sheet material meets your requirements: both in size and thickness. The following thicknesses are available: 40 mm and 54 mm.

Working with Aluplex® Sheets

Aluplex® is a hard type of sheet material. It is easy to work with if you have sharp tools. For drilling holes, we recommend a metal drill with a centering point. Pre-drilling is also advisable for this material. Use an edge sealer to finish the edges of Aluplex® to prevent moisture or dirt from affecting the core. To enjoy your outdoor project for a long time, this sheet material requires additional protection against weather conditions.

Specific Applications of Aluplex®

Aluplex® is specially developed for making exterior doors, which is its most common application. Thanks to the aluminum reinforcement, it can also be used in other areas where the stability of plywood is required.
