In this DIY project, Coen shows how he started making a pedestal for a work of art. He has placed wheels underneath, so that the whole thing is easy to move. Read below how he tackled this project!
Description of Coen
We wanted to make a sleek matte black mobile pedestal for our coastal work. I used black waterproof MDF, which gave me the above result after a number of layers of matte black lacquer and sanding. The pedestal was made for Overload Worldwide's training center for personal trainers. Due to the various functions of the space, it had to be easy to move, which is why we made blind wheels underneath so that it can be moved effortlessly.
How I made this project
I wanted a cube/rectangle of 100.0 x 80.0 x 35.0 cm. We attached a number of reinforcing beams to which the castors could be mounted. The 4 wheels protrude 1.5 cm below the cube and are attached to the cross beams that also strengthen the block since the art object is quite heavy. We have made a kind of mold to properly glue these large plates in various steps. After placing the beams, we had to touch up a number of places with filler, which allowed us to achieve a perfect matte black end result.
