Chipboard Water-resistant V313: what is that?
Chipboard is a fibreboard. It is made from wood chips that are impregnated with glue and pressed crosswise into a board in three layers. In the case of chipboard V313, this gluing is Water-resistant. The top layers of this board are lightly sanded so that it is extremely suitable for further processing.
Damp-proof chipboard, also known as V313 chipboard, is the Water-resistant variant within the chipboard family and is used, among other things, for levelling floors and making worktops and cupboards for damp rooms. It is easy to process and has a green top layer and core, which identify its Water-resistant properties.
Like MDF and OSB, this material belongs to the family of fibreboards. Chipboard is structurally strong, lightweight, easy to assemble and does not warp. As more than three-quarters of chipboard consists of residual wood, it is a durable product. Compared to MDF, the structure is coarser. This makes it more difficult to finish edges and corners than MDF. Furthermore, just like MDF, chipboard can be machined and lacquered in all kinds of shapes. However, it is necessary to prime chipboard first.
Chipboard Water-resistant is a constructional board. This means that this board material requires the necessary finishing before it can be used for visible work.
A sustainable choice
Chipboard Water-resistant is made of glued wood chips that are pressed together crosswise in three layers. This makes the board structurally strong as well. In comparison to MDF, coarser chips are used and in comparison to OSB, finer chips are used. Because a waste product (the wood chips) is used, chipboard is a sustainable product and very affordable.

Machining of Chipboard Water-resistant V313
Chipboard is good and easy to assemble or work with. When mounting the panel material, it is advisable to screw the screws to the rear or underside. That way, the screw holes are not visible. The fibres are held together by resin. Therefore, it is important to degrease the board properly before painting it. The material also sucks, which is why we recommend always finishing the edges with an edge sealer. For this reason, chipboard is only suitable for indoor applications and in dry conditions.
Are you going to paint chipboard? Then it is a good idea to countersink the screws and fill them with filler. Then sand and paint neatly in one go.
